The Creative

A Reluctant Beginning

My wife still teases me about the first time I listened to a podcast. It was 2014, and she’d been raving about Serial for months. I kept brushing it off, convinced it wasn’t my thing. Then one day, during a run up to Victoria Peak in Hong Kong, I finally caved and gave it a shot. I was instantly hooked. I couldn’t stop listening. That was the moment I realized just how powerful podcasts could be.

The Spark of Inspiration

Fast forward to 2018. I’d moved to California and was gearing up for a road trip from San Francisco to Seattle. That’s when I stumbled upon Wondery’s Man in the Window. It chronicled the chilling saga of the Golden State Killer, who had terrorized California for years before his recent, jaw-dropping capture. The story captivated me.

From Idea to Reality

It got me thinking about creating a podcast of my own, focusing on a case that my generation had grown up hearing about but never fully understood. The idea percolated for a while, but it wasn’t until after the pandemic hit that I finally pulled together a team to make it happen. What unfolded next exceeded even my wildest expectations.

A Story Resonates

Spotify picked up our podcast as a Spotify Original. When “Frente al Asesino” launched, it resonated deeply with audiences across several Latin American countries. In a surprising turn of events, our team’s work was recognized with the Best Podcast award at the Rose d’Or in Miami. The photo you see at the top of this page captures that incredible moment. And in the process, I got to meet some very talented celebrities like Axel Kuschevatzky (Argentina 1985) and (OMG!!!) Cristo Fernández (Ted Lasso’s Danny Rojas). Yes, meeting him was the best thing of that night!

Expanding Horizons

But we didn’t stop there. My company, La Parla Media, has gone on to produce several other successful podcasts:

Marcelo… We Have a Problem

In this scripted, ten-episode series, which I hosted and wrote, I tell the story of Marcelo Claure, the most influential Latino entrepreneur you’ve never heard of. Claure’s story has it all—money, power, and celebrity. With humor, context, and cliffhangers, I narrate the high-adrenaline journey of how this Bolivian entrepreneur rose to the top of global business, rubbing shoulders with the likes of retired footballer David Beckham and Softbank’s Masayoshi Son.

What Happened to You, Ernesto?

In this scripted series, which I hosted and co-wrote, I explore the rise and fall of Ernesto Talvi, a Uruguayan academic who became a presidential candidate and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Just as he emerged as a front-runner for the next election, Talvi stunned the nation by abruptly quitting politics at the peak of his leadership. Hence the question: What happened to you, Ernesto?

Diciembre de Gloria

In this three-episode special commemorative series, I partnered with Eduardo Sacheri, the writer behind the book that inspired the Oscar-winning movie El Secreto de Sus Ojos, to capture the anecdotes, emotions, and experiences of Argentina and Lionel Messi fans as their team won the 2022 World Cup.
